The four locations of Slope’s BBQ around Georgia may soon become three since the location in Cumming has recently been put up for sale.

The Slope’s BBQ building and land on 436 N Corners Parkway off Hwy. 20 has been put on the market after being open for 12 years. The building for the Cumming location is 3,744 square feet and is listed for $1.5 million.

The owner of the restaurant, Ricky Coppenger, explained that the reason behind the closing was family.

“The landlord is actually my father-in-law,” Coppenger said. “He has lost his eyesight ... and is nearing 80. He wants to liquidize his assets. We’re his family, so we support that.”

The restaurant has been known for its Southern barbecue and warm hospitality. Slope’s BBQ also has locations in Roswell, Alpharetta and Sandy Springs.

The future of the Cumming restaurant will be decided by the new owner of the land and building, Coppenger said. While there is a chance that it may stay as Slope’s BBQ, it may also become a whole new business.

Coppenger and his wife, who co-own the restaurant, would want to still work at Slope’s if it stays, he said; otherwise, they will find new jobs.
