Looking for an event with cotton candy and face painting to go along with flu shots and asthma screenings?

Purple Palooza, a combination fall festival and health fair, returns Saturday to Forsyth County.

“So far I’ve got 80 vendors, so it’s going to be so huge,” said Cathy Cathey, physician liaison for Medica Forsyth Imaging Center.

“It’s just a day of fun enjoyment. It’s an all-around fun afternoon.”

The imaging center, owned by Quantum Radiology, started the event three years ago. The weather hasn't always cooperated, but the event continues to grow.

“It rained all day last year,” Cathey said. “We kept coming in and saying it’s going to clear up, and it never did. But we still had a great turnout.”

Physicians from all fields of medicine will be on hand for questions and free screenings.

A number of food vendors will also attend. Among them: Chick-fil-A, Edible Arrangements and Lenny’s Sub Shop.

There will also be a pumpkin patch, cake walk and handmade jewelry.

For children, there will be a petting zoo, slide, inflatables and fire truck tours.

Among the entertainers will be Forsyth Central High School’s drum line, a barber shop quartet and the Laura Simon Band.

About 20 percent of food, water, pumpkin and raffle ticket sales will go toward Stickit2Cancer, a local group raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

“It’s a community festival that’s joining all of the businesses in the community for networking reasons, for just a community spirit celebration,” Cathey said. “It’s Medica’s way of giving back to the community and that’s really what it’s all about.”
