BUFORD — Initial reports released from Hall County Fire Services detail more than $500,000 in losses from a storage fire last month in Buford.

Firefighters responded about 3:49 p.m. Dec. 7 to a commercial fire at The Landing on Lanier in the 6000 block of Holiday Road.

“Upon arrival, [firefighters] found an outside storage facility full of recreational vehicles, campers and watercrafts on fire with multiple RVs and boats on fire,” according to the fire report.

Reports provided to The Times from the fire department detail some $566,000 in damages to 10 boats, four motor homes, two campers and the building itself.

Three Hall County-area property owners listed in the report declined to comment on the record about the incident. Another three property owners did not return a call seeking comment.

The reports list some of the units belonging to people from Forsyth, Cherokee, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Barrow counties.

The fire took more than two hours to extinguish, as crews cleared the scene about 6:15 p.m.

Initial damage estimates put the loss totals above $1 million.

“The fire at The Landing in Buford is still an open investigation,” Hall County Fire Capt. Zachary Brackett wrote in an email Friday. “The cause and origin are still being determined.”
