Forsyth County Senior Services will hold its first Healthy Aging and Fitness Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Seniors age 50 and older are invited to attend the event, which will be held at Sexton Hall Enrichment Center, 2115 Chloe Road in south Forsyth.

Valerie Rhoads, interim senior services director, said the fair will feature several free health screenings, wellness information and exercise demonstrations.

Among the screenings will be blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, as well as hearing, vision and balance.

Exercise demonstrations will include yoga, Tai Chi, ballroom dancing and total body conditioning.

“The exercise classes are some of the classes that are happening at Sexton, so those instructors are going to do the little demos,” Rhoads said.

She said she hopes many seniors will attend the event to take advantage of the free offerings.

“Wellness is one of the areas that we target with the seniors to enhance their wellness opportunities,” she said. “And a lot of free screenings are hard to find … these [medical businesses] are donating their screening time in order to allow them to be free.”

Rhoads said while this is the first time for the Healthy Aging and Fitness Fair, she hopes it will become an annual event.

“This is new, but we’ve had similar little [events],” she said. “This is probably going to be one we’ll have every year about this same time of year.

“I think we’ll have a really good turnout for our first time. Everything’s free and it’s for anyone 50 and up, so if they’re at least 50, tell them to come on.”
