CUMMING — Goodwill of North Georgia closed its store in Cumming to customers Nov. 14, but has plans to build a new store nearby.
Elaine Armstrong, director of public relations for the agency, said officials were looking to own a space rather than lease in the Merchants Square shopping Center off Hwy. 9.
“We were looking for a permanent home so we could solidify our place in the community,” she said. “We’re working to make sure we nail down the correct property and location for us and for our new store.”
Armstrong said that construction plans have not been officially approved, and thus she could not give a date of completion.
She also said the current store still will accept donations.
During a recent meeting, the Forsyth County commission approved a sketch plat for a potential new store at a nearby corner, where North Old Atlanta Road meets Hwy. 9. Current plans call for a 25,000-square-foot building on 5.7 acres.
