Northside Hospital-Forsyth has been recognized for its cardiac services.

According to a news release, the local hospital, as well as Northside’s Sandy Springs campus, recently received the UnitedHealth Premium Specialty Care designation from UnitedHealthcare.

“It is our privilege to provide high quality care to the people of our community,” said Liz Sobczyk, director of cardiovascular services. “We are proud that our efforts have been recognized and that our patients can choose Northside with confidence for conscientious, reliable cardiac services.”

According to information on UnitedHealthcare’s Web site, the designation program “recognizes physicians and specialty centers that meet or exceed quality of care and cost efficiency standards.”

The designation is based on detailed information about specialized training, practice capabilities and patient outcomes. It is designed to help patients make informed decisions should they need cardiac care.

Both Northside campuses underwent an extensive evaluation of staff, services and procedures to obtain the designation.

According to information from Northside, the hospital system is home to many board-certified cardiologists and cardiac and radiology-trained nurses and technologists, all of whom provide specialized cardiac care, as well as numerous diagnostic, treatment and support services.

In 2010, the hospital began offering at its Sandy Springs, Forsyth and Cherokee locations percutaneous coronary intervention, previously known as angioplasty.

Renovations also have been made to the hospitals’ heart cath labs and critical progressive cardiac care units.

In addition, both the Sandy Springs and Forsyth locations have received accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, which signifies their high level of expertise in treating patients with heart attack symptoms.

Both campuses also received the UnitedHealthcare Premium Designation recognition in the areas of total joint replacement care, and the Sandy Springs location earned a designation for surgical spine care.
