Jazzercise recently joined forces with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate for the eighth annual Jazzerthon for the Cure.

The event, held on Valentine’s Day at the Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead, included three high-energy fitness classes of Jazzercise instructors and customers from throughout Georgia.

Cumming instructor Lynne Banister and 12 of her customers participated, raising $7,000 of the $190,000 collected for Komen Atlanta’s mission to help women detect and survive breast cancer.

Banister said in a statement that the “event is always so much fun.”

“What makes it really special is the fact that so many of us have had our lives impacted by breast cancer and this event gives us the opportunity to make a difference,” she said.

Seventy-five percent of the donations from this year’s event will fund education, screening and treatment programs supported by Komen Atlanta in its 10-county service area. The other 25 percent goes to the Komen for the Cure award and research grant programs.
