CUMMING — Lou Sobh Honda held a grand opening event Aug. 13 at the dealership on Buford Road.

While the location has been open to the public since the end of 2013, the gathering gave company leaders an opportunity to celebrate the success of the facility with the community and Honda executives.

“Usually with a car dealership, you want to wait a little bit longer for a grand opening,” explained Mike Sobh, vice president of the company and son of Lou Sobh.

“This way, when [company leaders] come in, they can see your progress and how you’re doing. It’s so you have a little bit of track record.”

Sobh said many community leaders, such as county commissioners, Cumming Mayor H. Ford Gravitt and representatives of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, had an opportunity to meet Honda executives at the event.

“We had the general manager of Honda out from California … and all the other Honda executives, as well as American Honda Finance executives,” Sobh had.

The dealership, with about 500 vehicles on site, is one of several the Sobh family owns. Other sites are in California and Florida.

The Cumming location includes a 50,000-square-foot structure housing the sales and service departments. And the service area is open to all makes and models, not just Hondas.

Sobh said the facility has become a leader in the Honda market.

“Sales-wise, we’re maintaining a top five position in the Atlanta [area] with Honda and selling over 225 vehicles a month,” Sobh said. “We have the No. 1 customer satisfaction rating in the entire [Atlanta area] and we are No. 28 in the nation out of 1,150 Honda dealers.”

Next on the Sobh family’s agenda for the area is a Sobh Kia dealership next door.

“We’re hoping to break ground on that facility around Sept. 1 with an opening in March or April 2015,” Sobh said.

He hopes the new dealership experiences the same level of success as the Honda facility.

“It’s been a very successful beginning,” he said. “We merged a great county and a great area with a great manufacturer, and it’s just a recipe for success.”
