CUMMING — Sound the trumpets. A local music center was recently named one of the world’s top 100 musical instrument and product retailers for the first time.

Music Authority, located in the Lanier Crossing shopping center in Cumming, will be honored by the National Association of Music Merchants, or NAMM, during the music product industry’s upcoming trade event, Summer NAMM, in Nashville.

“For us, it isn’t about how many guitars we can sell,” said Melissa Loggins, chief financial officer at Music Authority. “It’s about how many lives we can impact in a positive way.”

The Top 100 designation recognizes commitment to exceptional customer service, community advocacy, support for music education, a positive retail experience and planning for future success, among other initiatives.

Music Authority is also under consideration to receive the Dealer of the Year award, NAMM’s highest honor for retailers, and seven other “Best Of” awards, including: store design, marketing and sales promotion, online engagement, emerging dealer, store turnaround, customer service and the Music Makes a Difference Award.

Winners of these categories, as well as Dealer of the Year, will be announced during the July 10 award ceremony in Tennessee.

A panel of independent judges scores each entry to determine the Top 100.

“The music retailers honored with NAMM’s Top 100 Dealer status are those working hard to create positive musical experiences for everyone, from those just learning to experienced musicians,” said Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM. “Music Authority is an important ambassador for making music in the Atlanta area and exemplifies the passion for making music that unites us all.”
