The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation department has been named the 7th District agency of the year.
The award was presented Wednesday during a Georgia Recreation and Park Association banquet in Gainesville.
In addition, county athletic manager Wayne Maddox won programmer of the year for the department's athletics program.
Jerry Kinsey, department director, said the recognition was quite an honor.
"People in Forsyth County expect good things from our department, and we do our best," Kinsey said.
The award is judged on how busy a department is and the diversity of its programs.
Kinsey said the department's facilities and staff were the key to winning the award.
"We've got good facilities in Forsyth County," said Kinsey, adding that it was the third time the county has won the award for its district.
According to its Web site, the Georgia Recreation and Park Association was formed in 1945 as a private, nonprofit institution "to support and promote the recreation and park industries within the state of Georgia."
Awards ceremonies are held every year to recognize achievement in parks and recreation programs.
