Ping pong tourney to be 42nd at Normans Landing in south Forsyth
PingPong

SOUTH FORSYTH -- Game on: A biannual ping pong tournament at Norman’s Landing is coming to south Forsyth Oct. 25 and 26.

The tournament, which has been held for the last nearly 22 years, will support the American Red Cross, the restaurant’s charity of the month.

“We all play like we’re playing in the basement and have fun and raise money to support the charity of the month,” said Bill Norman, owner of the restaurant on Peachtree Parkway across from The Collection at Forsyth.

All proceeds will go to the organization.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. both nights, with Tuesday scheduled for men and women’s singles and Wednesday for men and women’s doubles.

Mixed doubles will also be able to play Wednesday.

The fee is $25 per person, and players will win prizes such as T-shirts and other memorabilia, Norman said.

Winners will receive gift certificates for lunch or dinner for two.

The event has been a success in past years, Norman said, having raised nearly $300,000 over the last two decades.

Participation has also never been a problem. Norman said he expects 25 to 30 players each night for the competition.

The restaurant is also participating in United Way of Forsyth County’s “United we Dine” and will serve lunch all day on Wednesday.

Ten percent of all lunch and dinner sales will be donated to the nonprofit.
