Several employees from the Lowe’s on Market Place Boulevard spent three days last week working at The Place of Forsyth County.

Through the store’s Heroes volunteer program, staff members spent nearly 20 hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday helping the nonprofit with several projects.

Among them: Spreading some 600 pounds of mulch on the facility’s playground; landscaping and painting; repairing water leaks; and building new shelves for the food pantry, a bike rake and shelters for picnic tables.

Dustin Chambers, human resources manager at the store, said about 30 employees participated in the projects.

“Our Heroes Program is an opportunity for Lowe’s to give back to the community and this year we had an opportunity to partner with The Place to give back locally,” Chambers said.

Sandy Beaver, director of The Place, said the employees’ efforts were much appreciated.

“It was pretty awesome because they helped us do things that we don’t have money in our budget to do that need to be done,” she said. “In these difficult economic times, all that work is priceless.”
