Belk in Cumming is looking for local charities interested in taking part in its Spring Charity Sale on May 1.

The store will hold a kickoff breakfast March 13 for nonprofit organizations interested in taking part in the sale.

Organizations are asked to R.S.V.P. as early as possible for the breakfast, which is set for 9 to 10 a.m. at the store, 520 Lakeland Plaza.

The Spring Charity Sale offers a fundraising opportunity for participating nonprofits and a chance for customers to support charities and enjoy discounts on purchases.

In return for a $5 donation, customers receive a ticket to the sale, set for 6 to 10 a.m. May 1, and entitling them to discounts ranging from 20 to 70 percent on purchases.

Customers also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more. Belk cardholders will receive double points and Belk Elite cardholders will receive triple points.

Participating local charities sell tickets in advance and get to keep the proceeds from those sales.

Beginning April 23, tickets may also be bought at the store, with all donations divided among the participating charities.

There is no limit on ticket sales or the amount of money raised. Belk provides tickets and materials at no cost to the participating groups.

The company's previous charity sale, held Nov. 7, raised more than $4 million for participating nonprofit organizations throughout the company's 16-state market area.

In order to participate, organizations must have an IRS 501(c)(3) designation.
