CUMMING – A car wash in Cumming whose name includes part of the opposing team in this weekend’s Super Bowl showdown has renamed their business to support the Atlanta Falcons.

“The unfortunately named Atlanta car wash, ‘The Patriot Auto Wash,’ will temporarily change its name to ‘Rise Up!!! Auto Wash’ from Wednesday, February 1 through Sunday, February 5,” said Lewis Alston, spokesman for the business, in a news release.

Rise Up!!! Auto Wash, located at 1 Tri County Plaza, is offering fans who visit the business on Sunday the “Dirty Bird Special,” good for $5 off any car wash, in addition to the chance to win other prizes. There will also be additional specials if the Falcons beat the New England Patriots on Sunday in Super Bowl 51.

“All of us fans haven’t recovered from the Big Game loss in 1999,” Alston said. “We are extremely proud and excited for our home team and, to show our loyalty, we have to change our name to help Atlanta rise up.”

He said the name likely would not have changed had he not spoken with a customer.

“It was really just organic,” he said. “A customer came up to me and as they pulled in the tunnel were like, ‘Hey look, we’ve been coming here for years, love this place, but I think that the name might get a lot of people upset and they won’t come in here.”

Alston said customer have loved the change and that he has taken more Falcons flags and magnets off cars before they get washed than ever before.

“It has been a great response. It’s a laughter that they give us, but it’s an authentic thank you,” he said.

He said he sees more excitement in fans for this Super Bowl trip than in 1999.

“It has been mind-blowing. Everybody’s just been open arms with us and just embracing it like we are,” he said. “It’s really like a storybook. Once we beat Green Bay in the last game in the Georgia Dome, and from what I understand it was the loudest that it’s ever been.

“What a great way to shut down the dome.”
