Parsons of Cumming will welcome the creator of some of America’s most beloved figurines Friday.

Mark Roberts, known as the “king of Christmas” to some, will be at the store from 2 to 4 p.m. as part of his 20-city national signing tour.

“We’re super excited to have him,” said Cris Willis, owner of  the home decor and collectibles shop in Lakeland Plaza. “We’re the only store in Georgia that he’s visiting.

“We’ve been carrying his line for about five or six years now. They’re very popular, very whimsical, and he has a great following.”

Roberts has been creating collectible figurines of fairies, elves and Santas for 12 years based on inspiration from his mother’s childhood tales of fairies.

Roberts’ Santa Ana, Calif., production company employs some 100 people and includes more than 500 unique designs, each a limited addition piece.

In addition, Roberts supports various charitable causes through specially designed pieces.

This year, he is promoting the Fairy of Miracles and the Spirit of Hope Fairy. Proceeds from these will support, respectively, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Willis is expecting a large turnout for the free signing event.

“We’ve sold a lot of fairies and santas and elves. A lot of people are asking us to hold them so they can get them signed,” she said, noting that some people from as far away as Florida, Alabama and South Carolina plan to attend.

“We’ve done mailings and e-mails and seen a lot of response. People are really excited.”

In addition to the Cumming visit, Roberts will also make a stop at the Parsons of North Point Alpharetta location from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
