Stretch of Ga. 400 in north Forsyth deemed states smoothest

NORTH FORSYTH — The state Department of Transportation recently announced that its resurfacing of 8.7 miles on Ga. 400 between Hwys. 306 and 53 in northern Forsyth County has received the 2014 Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality Award for the smoothest road statewide.

According to the DOT, a high smoothness rating means the road will last longer with less maintenance.

The project was completed by C.W. Matthews at a cost of $3.2 million. To minimize the impact, all of the work occurred overnight.

Among those taking part in the presentation were, from left, DOT officials Keith Golden, Harold Mull, Matt Needham, Kris Phillips and Brent Cook.
