Break out the tents and sleeping bags, Shady Grove Campground is re-opening.

The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department has announced the lakeside park, which has more than 110 campsites, is set to open Saturday. The park will remain open until Nov. 8.

Features include campsites with picnic shelters, water and power hookups, as well as tent camping areas.

There is also a beach, swim area and playground.

Tommy Bruce, parks and recreation assistant director, said Shady Grove’s boat ramp will not open until lake levels improve, however.

“We have opened the three ramps at Young Deer Park so we’ll be letting the campers, if they bring a boat, we’ll give them a pass over to Young Deer to launch their boat if they want to,” he said.

Bruce said some of the sites at Shady Grove have been expanded to accommodate larger recreational vehicles, and there are plans for more upgrades in the near future.

Jerry Kinsey, director of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, said the park “is a great campground.”

“We are really proud to be able to offer such a high quality campground for our residents and visitors alike.”

The campground is located at 7800 Shadburn Ferry Road and campsites may be reserved up to 30 days in advance with full payment made in person at Shady Grove.
