Forsyth County’s Shady Grove Campground will open for the season Monday.

Jerry Kinsey, county parks and recreation director, said in a statement that the 109-acre site continues to be a "popular destination" for campers on Lake Lanier.

"It is exciting to open Shady Grove Campground for campers and to officially start the 2012 camping season in Forsyth County," Kinsey said.

The campground, which is at 7800 Shadburn Ferry Road, has more than 110 campsites.

Amenities include a beach and swim area, boat ramp with courtesy dock and group campsites with picnic shelters.

There’s also a playground, tent camping areas and campsites with water and 30 and 50 amp power hookups.

Tommy Bruce, assistant director of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, said the campground continues to be a "fantastic amenity" for the county.

"We are very proud to be able to offer such a high quality campground for our residents and visitors alike," he said.

The campground will remain open until Nov. 4.

This will be the second camping season since the county made a variety of improvements at the campground.

Those included expanded camping pads for larger recreational vehicles, a grassy play area and restored shoreline.

They were made possible by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by voters in February 2008.
