CASA of Forsyth County hopes to take great strides Saturday in its mission to provide a voice for abused and neglected children.

The nonprofit, volunteer organization will hold Strides for Kids 5K Run/Walk and Family Fun Day at Coal Mountain Park, 3560 Settingdown Road.

The 5K run will begin at 8 a.m., the walk at 8:30 a.m. and the fun day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Individual registration for the 5K is $20, $30 per couple and $40 for a family of three or more.

“Funds raised for this event will help continue the organization’s commitment to provide child victims of abuse and neglect with a voice in court,” said CASA board member Toni Karasik.

Karasik said some of the offerings during the Family Fun Day will include music, games, food, face painting and softball and tennis challenges.

According to its Web site, Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers serve as “the eyes and ears of the court” in child abuse and neglect cases by interviewing anyone “who may be able to shed light on the child’s needs.”

They also make court appearances to “make recommendations to the judge, based on the CASA’s independent assessment.”

The organization is always in need of volunteers.
