ceremony

FORSYTH COUNTY — Forsyth County emergency services personnel held a short ceremony Thursday morning to honor those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

A group of county employees gathered at the Public Safety Complex for the memorial, which included lowering flags to half-staff and a bagpipe tribute.

Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers also led a bell ringing to honor the more than 400 firefighters and law enforcement officers who perished that day.

“The alarm code 5-5-5 signifies a company returning home to quarters,” he said.

Fire Capt. Joey Smith rang the bell during the ceremony.
