Crash injures two on Market Place Boulevard in Cumming
crash

CUMMING — A man was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle collision at Market Place Boulevard and Mary Alice Park Road.

The wreck occurred about 11 a.m. when a full-size Chevrolet utility van collided with a Pontiac Firebird, causing the van to flip on its side. The convertible made a hard left into vegetation and utility poles at the corner.

Emergency units were called for three injuries, all to adult men, according to Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers. A medical helicopter was canceled before it arrived.

The driver of the van was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with what were described as serious injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac also was taken to Northside but was in stable condition.

When the van flipped on its side, it reportedly rolled into a stationary city of Cumming pickup truck. The truck was about to make a left turn onto Mary Alice from Market Place heading west.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved. The driver of that truck refused an ambulance.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies helped direct traffic at the intersection.

Northbound Market Place was shut down for about an hour, while motorists could make only right turns from Mary Alice Park Road.

The sheriff’s office crash investigation unit assisted Cumming police with the crash. Fault has not been determined as the investigation continues. Charges, if any, will come from the city.
