A rummage sale this weekend could help a program for those with special needs attend more events and activities in their communities.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, a rummage and bake sale will be held at Creative Enterprises Forsyth at 410 Pilgrim Mill Road. Funds raised in the event will go toward a new bus, a recent push by the officials with the organization.
“They actually need two buses so we can get these people out of the building and into the community and doing different things that they want to do,” said Diane Silverberg, who said her daughters attend Creative Enterprises twice a week. “The problem is mainly … how many spaces can be available for wheelchairs on the bus.”
Clients, officials with the business and parents will be on hand for the event.
Silverberg said in addition to the sales, the event will be a chance for visitors to check out the center or make donations.
“We’re trying to have a good sized rummage sale,” she said. “If they don’t want to buy anything, that’s fine. Please donate. We’ll have a donation table available.”
Clients at Creative Enterprises are frequently out in the community, but are limited due to the bus needs. In March, Creative Enterprises hosted a dance to raise funds for the first bus.
“Their goal is to give [clients] four trips a month,” Silverberg said. “But the buses have to be available, otherwise they can’t do groups like that. They recently got a new bus, but it’s not going to take all of them.”
