2012 slaying of Cumming man in middle Georgia remains unsolved
crime

More than three years after his body was found in his middle Georgia deer processing business, it remains unknown who killed Nelson Garner of Cumming and state investigators are seeking the public’s help to solve the case.

The 60-year-old man was discovered slain about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 2012, by his brother at Garner’s Grinder on Hwy. 16 in Sparta, which is in Hancock County.

Scott Dutton of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Office of Public Affairs said the case “remains open and active,” though he could not release further details.

Garner had last been seen alive at 4 p.m. that day.

Authorities have withheld the cause of death due to the investigative value, but they have said it was apparent Garner was killed.

Garner and his brother stayed at and operated the well-known area business during hunting season.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the GBI’s Milledgeville regional office at (478) 445-4173.
