DAWSONVILLE -- Authorities have arrested a Dahlonega man believed to be responsible for a string of church burglaries in Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Skyler William Michaelson, 20, is being held at Dawson County Jail on charges related to a car chase early Saturday.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said additional charges are pending in connection with more than a dozen church burglaries since February.

Lumpkin County officers received a tip that led them to Michaelson.

The ensuing investigation took them to Dawson County, where Georgia State Patrol troopers engaged in a short car chase with the suspect.

Michaelson eventually left the vehicle and ran into a wooded area off Harmony Church Road, according to Wooten.

"Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was able to convince him to come out of the woods and surrender to officers [about 2 a.m.]," Wooten said.

He added that more details will be released as the investigation unfolds.
