Local authorities are searching for suspects responsible for a fraudulent bomb threat that allegedly targeted the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office’s headquarters over the weekend.

According to Cpl. Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, the bomb threat was made on Facebook on Sunday afternoon and was reported to the Cumming Police Department by a concerned citizen.

Rainwater said that investigators thoroughly eliminated the possibility of any threat at all of their precincts and quickly determined that the threat was fraudulent.

“We have contacted Facebook and we believe at this point that someone created a fake profile in someone else’s name to make a threat against us,” Rainwater said.

Rainwater said the threat has no credibility and was likely meant to incriminate a local Forsyth County resident.

At this point, Rainwater said that they are working with the law enforcement division of Facebook to find the suspect responsible and bring them to justice. When captured, the suspect could face several felonies, Rainwater said.
