FLOWERY BRANCH — A Gainesville woman is accused of shoplifting from the Dollar General and fighting a pregnant store employee, according to Hall County authorities.

Bridgette Cabrilla Hughes, 25, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of amphetamines, theft by shoplifting and two counts of third-degree child cruelty.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes entered the Atlanta Highway Dollar General in Flowery Branch on Saturday and allegedly shoplifted merchandise.

“When Hughes exits the business without paying for those items, store employee Michele Bagwell follows Hughes to her vehicle and confronts her about the shoplifting,” Hall County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes wrote in an email. “A fight then ensues between the two females in the presence of Hughes’ two minor children.”

According to the sheriff’s office, Hughes struck Bagwell several times in the face and bit her on the hand. Deputies also found that Bagwell was pregnant, Bailes wrote.

Witnesses to the fight called 911, where Hughes was taken into custody.

“Hughes was later determined to have in her possession Adderall which she did not have a prescription for,” Bailes wrote.

Bagwell was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for observation.

Hughes was taken to the Hall County Jail, where she remains.
