A Barrow County man was arrested by local authorities after he allegedly traveled to Forsyth County to have sexual contact with a minor at a local park on Wednesday.
Michael Anthony Putnam, 27, of Auburn was taken into custody at West Bank Park in Cumming, where he allegedly arranged a meeting with a 14-year-old child for the purposes of sex, according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Rainwater, instead of meeting a minor, Putnam was intercepted by undercover law enforcement officers, who had been posing as the 14-year-old and communicating with him via a social media platform since mid-December 2018.
Because Putnam allegedly solicited sex from a person that he knew was a minor, Rainwater said he has been charged with criminal attempt to commit sodomy, criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, obscene internet contact with a child and illegal solicitation of a child.
Putnam was also charged with one count of possession of marijuana for a small amount of drugs that were allegedly found on his person at the time of his arrest.
He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail and is currently under no bond.
