NORTH FORSYTH — A Forsyth County Sheriff’s bike patrol deputy who was injured last week on a remote trail likely will return to work next week.

Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said Wednesday that the injured officer, Sgt. Matt Runion, is scheduled to return to Monday.

Rainwater said Runion, who suffered a concussion in the accident last Thursday morning, has been cleared by doctors for duty at the beginning of next week.

Runion, who during the school year serves as a school resource officer, fell on a trail behind Central Park and hit his head.

Due to the terrain, he was taken to the nearby Forsyth County Water Treatment Plant on a Gator, which is similar to a large golf cart.

From there, he was flown by medical helicopter to North Fulton Hospital, where he underwent testing and was released that afternoon.
