Two gas stations targeted by smash and grab burglars

Authorities say that in late May two Forsyth County gas stations were targeted by thieves in a series of smash and grab burglaries.

According to sheriff’s office incident reports, on Wednesday, May 22, a Shell gas station on Atlanta Highway was broken into overnight by a suspect that smashed a door, stole cartons of cigarettes and a money order machine, and fled the scene in a black Mercedes.

On that same night, deputies checking for signs of a break in at another shell station on McFarland Parkway found the Mercedes parked at the location and discovered a suspect hiding in the bushes.

The report states that a deputy chased the suspect on foot for a short time before losing contact and returning to the scene.

No suspect was apprehended, but the suspect’s vehicle and merchandise stolen from the Shell station were recovered, the report states.
