BUFORD — A Decatur man has been charged with shooting a man in the chest at a birthday party last month at a Lanier Islands lake house, authorities said.

Andrew Demetri Joyce, 23, faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery in connection with the alleged fight Aug. 16 at the resort, where Malik Davis, 23, of Union City was shot.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office previously told The Times that friends from metro Atlanta had rented a lake house for a birthday party. An argument started after three men arrived uninvited. Witnesses told authorities that Davis attempted to break up the fight when shots were fired.

Davis was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was in the intensive care unit shortly after emergency surgery. The hospital had no information about him Monday.

According to the warrant served Saturday, Joyce was charged with aggravated battery for bodily harm to Davis’ spleen. The gun allegedly used was a .380 pistol, according to the warrants.

Joyce was also charged with possession of a gun by a felon, as he had been convicted in Lowndes County for terroristic threats, according to the warrant.
