Deputies halt inmate suicide

Forsyth County News
Two Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies are being hailed for preventing an inmate from killing himself.

The department has recognized sheriff’s deputies John Varga and Robert Williams as employees of the quarter.

“Their quick actions show the commitment and detailed focus these deputies had for their job duties, given the fact that they have to watch the movements of over 200 inmates along with monitoring the safety of detention staff members,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Col. Dennis Nelson.

According to a sheriff’s report, Varga called for help after he noticed a male inmate, whose name has not been released, twisting a sheet in a suspicious manner.

The inmate then moved as if he were going to hang himself.

Williams responded and helped Varga stop the man.
