A high-speed southbound chase that started Wednesday afternoon in Forsyth County ended a short time later when the driver crashed into a tree in Alpharetta, authorities said.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Brando Friday, 40, of Dunwoody was clocked traveling 86 mph in a 65 mph speed limit zone on Ga. 400 south near Peachtree Parkway.

Sheriff’s spokesman Doug Rainwater said Friday accelerated as a patrol car began pursuit and continued south in a Chevy Silverado Z-71 until leaving the highway on Haynes Bridge Road.

He then made a U-turn near Devore Road in Alpharetta to drive back toward Ga. 400 when he “lost control and hit a tree,” Rainwater said.

Friday was treated on scene for a minor cut on his wrist from the crash before being taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center.

He is charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.
