FORSYTH COUNTY – A 57-year-old man has been charged with murder after he reportedly stabbed his roommate with a kitchen knife several times during a dispute early Sunday in north Forsyth.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Donald Griffin was arrested just after midnight at the singlewide rental mobile home on Karr Road that he shares with several other people, including the victim, Truitt Cheeley, 48.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at the home to find Cheeley with several cuts and three stab wounds. He was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he was pronounced dead later in the morning.

The men, who were supposedly acquainted through the victim’s girlfriend, who also lived in the home, had reportedly been having a dispute prior to the stabbing, according to Robin Regan, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Regan said alcohol was “a factor with everyone on scene.”

Griffin is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center.
