Authorities have arrested a man from Forsyth County after he allegedly accidentally shot his adult son in the knee during a “drunken incident” on Monday afternoon.
Cpl. Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived at an address in north Forsyth at about 4:30 p.m. Monday and found that one adult male had allegedly been shot in the knee by his father. He said that it was determined that a handgun, allegedly wielded by Marek Phillip Kaczor, 66, of Forsyth County, went off striking his son.
Rainwater said that both men were “heavily intoxicated” during the incident and alcohol likely played a part in the shooting.
Kaczor immediately called 911 and his son was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Rainwater said.
Authorities believe the incident is a “true accident between family members” with no signs of malicious intent or suspicion.
Rainwater said that due to the circumstances of the incident, Kaczor has been charged with aggravated assault with a gun and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
“When you are intoxicated like that and hurt someone, you are going to be charged,” Rainwater said.
Kaczor is being held in the Forsyth County Jail and is currently under no bond.
