An employee of the Forsyth County Fire Department has been arrested in Dawson County for charges of aggravated assault and sexual battery, authorities say.

John James Weisgerber, 40, of Dawsonville was arrested by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, Sept. 27 for aggravated assault, two counts of sexual battery and six counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, according to Dawson County Detention Center records.

On Friday, Karen Shields, director of communication with the Forsyth County government, confirmed that Weisgerber is a firefighter with the Forsyth County Fire Department.

Shields could not confirm how long Weisgerber has been employed by the fire department or where he is stationed. She said that Weisberger has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into his arrest.

Dawson County Detention Center records show that Weisgerber is being held in custody under a $75,200 bond.
