HALL COUNTY - A father and son are dead in a murder-suicide that occurred late Saturday.

Cameron Clark Martin, 29, contacted his family to tell them he was suicidal Saturday night, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

His father, 56-year-old Paul Cowan Martin, who was a doctor with the Gainesville Radiology Group, went to check on his son in the 2300 block of Thompson Mill Road.

The Sheriff’s Office responded just before midnight with a SWAT team and Gainesville Police Department negotiators. After failing to contact anyone in the home, deputies sent a robot into the house and one of the bodies was discovered. The SWAT team entered and discovered the second body. Both men had been killed by gunfire.

The Sheriff’s Office believes Cameron Martin shot his father, contacted his family and then shot himself. Members of Martin’s family called law enforcement. The case remains under investigation.

"Paul was a valued member of Gainesville Radiology Group — an excellent radiologist," said Lee Martin, president of the group and no relation to Paul Martin. "He was a very hard worker. He was one of those that when we needed a volunteer to do something, he was the first one to raise his hand. We’re going to miss him for a lot of reasons."

Paul Martin began working for the radiology group in 2006. The home where the shooting took place was purchased by Paul and Katherine Martin in 2006, according to Hall County records.

Lee Martin said he didn't know the family well but had met Katherine Martin. She and Paul Martin divorced after moving to Gainesville, Lee Martin said.
