Local authorities have arrested a Hall County man for theft after it was reported that he allegedly walked away with more than $8,000 of a Forsyth County family’s money, obtained as payment for landscaping work that they say was allegedly never done.

William Charles Cammarata, 37, of Flowery Branch, owner of Northeast Georgia Landscaping, was taken into the custody of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 25 and charged with felony theft by taking.

A sheriff’s office incident report filed on Sept. 13, 2018 states that deputies responded to a home in north Forsyth to investigate a report that a landscaping company had allegedly taken a partial payment for a large landscaping project but had never returned to complete the agreed upon work.

According to the report, the homeowners told deputies that in April 2017 they entered into an agreement to pay Cammarata $18,007.80 for Northeast Georgia Landscaping to work on the residence’s retaining wall and sod replacement, allegedly paying him $8,500 at that time.

The report states that following that meeting, homeowners kept getting excuses from Cammarata “as to why the work had not started” and eventually stopped hearing from him altogether.

Deputies were provided multiple documents, including email conversations, an invoice and a certificate of liability insurance by the homeowner, the report states.

In the report, Deputy A. Diel stated that they failed to make contact with Cammarata via a phone number and when Cammarata’s name was researched online, multiple other incidents similar to the incident the homeowners described were discovered.

Superior Court records show that Cammarata was also implicated in several different cases of deposit account fraud in Gwinnett County in 2017 and 2018.

Cammarata was later taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office at the Gwinnett County Jail.

He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail and is under no bond.
