Authorities said Wednesday that they had no new information to release in the case of two children who have fallen mysteriously ill.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Lt. Col. Gene Moss said deputies are continuing to investigate what may have happened to the twin 4-year-old boys, but declined to comment further on the matter.

The boys, whose names have not been released, are being treated at Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Egleston, where they have been since Monday.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton has said his agency is involved to ensure that nothing criminal has occurred.

No charges have been filed in connection with the children's illnesses.

One of the boys is listed in guarded condition, which Paxton said is considered worse than critical, while the other is stable.

He was rushed to the hospital Monday morning after their mother reported that he was unresponsive and having respiratory problems at a residence on John Burruss Road.

The other twin was taken to Egleston hours later, as was a 2-year-old sibling, after he showed similar symptoms.

The younger child was evaluated and did not appear to be sick.
