CUMMING -- A man has been charged in connection with a fatal wreck that occurred on Friday afternoon in Cumming.

Jackson Martin, 21, of Cumming, was arrested for second-degree homicide by vehicle and driving through a red light and was issued a seatbelt violation after his Chevrolet Silverado T-boned a Mercury Grand Marquis about 3:45 p.m. July 15, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Gianoulis.

The crash occurred in front of the Taco Mac on Market Place Boulevard between Mary Alice Park and Buford Dam roads.

An investigation by GSP revealed Martin was heading south on Market Place when he ran a red light, striking the Grand Marquis at the driver’s side door.

Martin, who did not appear to be injured in the wreck, was taken to the Forsyth County Jail, where he remained as of Monday on a $3,410 bond, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Grand Marquis, 81-year-old Quinton Lord, of Cumming, was transported to North Fulton Hospital with critical injuries, where he passed away shortly after, Gianoulis said.

Both of his passengers were also taken to North Fulton – an adult female who was sitting in the front seat and a young female child who was properly restrained in the back seat, according to Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers.

Shivers said the adult suffered what were described as moderate injuries and was listed in stable condition upon her transport.

The child was also stable and alert, he said.

Market Place Boulevard was reduced to one lane for about an hour.
