A 57-year-old man charged with sexually abusing a child remained in custody Wednesday without bond.

Robert Marcus Bennett, 8445 Jot Em Down Road, was arrested Nov. 13 by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

He has been charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes, aggravated child molestation, sexual exploitation of a child and sodomy.

Authorities said a Superior Court Judge would have to set Bennett's bond.

The child, whose name has not been released, is a 12-year-old boy.

Sheriff's Lt. Col. Gene Moss said Bennett was "an acquaintance" of the child, who lived near him.

Authorities declined to speculate whether Bennett, a Forsyth County native, has abused other children. The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff's Sgt. Bill Franco said the Division of Family and Children Services contacted the sheriff's office a few weeks ago about the case, prompting an investigation.

Franco said such cases are a high priority.

"Typically, you're dealing with children who are individuals who can't protect themselves and need someone to protect them," he said. "That's why we move quickly on these."

Moss said DFCS is required by law to notify authorities when it receives reports of sexual abuse.
