After a brief manhunt Tuesday, authorities apprehended a man sought for questioning in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy earlier in the day.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located the man about 1:30 p.m. in some woods behind the Bridgetowne Subdivision, just west of Ga. 400 at Hwy. 369 in north Forsyth.

The man’s name has not been released, but sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Rainwater described him as the boyfriend of the boy’s mother. The man had been reportedly been taking care of the child that morning when he went into distress.

The child was in full arrest and CPR had been started by the mother when authorities arrived.

“The mother found the child and made the 911 call,” Rainwater said. “The boyfriend was supposed to be with the child babysitting. The child was found unconscious.”

The boy was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he died.

“The mother stayed [with the child]. It was the boyfriend who took off and ran,” Rainwater said. “We’ve been piecing things together and … were looking for this man who was with the boy at the time.

“The mother is being interviewed about what happened, but considering the fact that [the man] did flee and we had to go find him, he would be considered a suspect right now.”

It was not immediately clear how the child died or if he had suffered any physical injuries. The sheriff's office is handling the investigation.
