A 71-year-old man remained in custody Tuesday, two days after authorities say he drove over and killed his girlfriend at their northwestern Forsyth County home.

John Lindsey Jordan of 8015 Nicholson Road was arrested Sunday and charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree and driving under the influence, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's officials.

He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center, where a jail spokesman said his bond has been set at $17,985.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Capt. Frank Huggins declined to release the name of the 43-year-old woman because authorities are still trying to find her family.

The incident occurred about 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Huggins said the couple had some type of dispute and Jordan attempted to leave in his 1993 Ford F150 pickup truck.

“She came out to try to prevent him from leaving and in the course of things he ran over her and killed her,” he said.

Huggins said it is not clear if the woman also had been drinking.
