Authorities say that officers responding to a burglar alarm at a local liquor store early Monday morning arrived in the nick of time to catch a naked, hammer-wielding burglar as he fled the scene of an alleged burglary.

Charles Richard Wyatt, 61, was arrested by the Cumming Police Department at about 4 a.m. Monday after he was allegedly found exiting a broken glass door at the Beverage World liquor store on Lanier Parkway in Cumming, naked and carrying a framing hammer and a can of Coca-Cola, according to an incident report from the Cumming Police Department.

The report states that after Wyatt was cuffed and placed in a patrol car, officers were given surveillance camera footage that allegedly showed the suspect “breaking into the business with the hammer he was found with,” wandering around inside the store and laying down momentarily, and finally taking a can of Coca-Cola before leaving the store.

The suspect was then arrested, charged with felony counts of burglary and possession of burglary tools, one misdemeanor count of theft by taking and was transported to the Forsyth County Jail.

Wyatt is being held in custody under a $17,895 bond.
