911 operators received a call from Dawson County Fire Station 7 on Dawson Forest Road requesting police for an active shooting situation at 7:39 p.m. on Monday.  

According to preliminary reports from the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, the suspect followed the female victim into the parking lot, exited his vehicle, and fired several shots into the victim's car, striking and killing the victim. 

Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson confirmed that two children, ages 8 and 5 were in the car with the woman at the time of the shooting.  They were unharmed and are currently in DFCS custody. 

GBI is also actively investigating the incident, and officials say a suspect is in custody.
