Police: Gainesville man accused of attempted rape at Dairy Queen

GAINESVILLE -- A Gainesville man is accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman in a Gainesville Dairy Queen restroom, police said.

Demetrius Miguel Render, 44, is charged with criminal attempt to commit rape, false imprisonment and simple battery. He was booked Saturday in to the Hall County Jail, where he remained as of Wednesday.

Gainesville Police said Render “lured” the victim on Saturday into the Dairy Queen bathroom on Green Street.

Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the Gainesville man is accused of attempting to “physically and sexually assault her.”

According to the warrants, Render is accused of “grabbing (the victim) by both wrists and (blocking) her path to the exit, detaining (the victim) against her will.”

The age of the victim was not available.

Holbrook said the victim fought back and “yelled for help to draw attention.”
