GAINESVILLE — One man was shot during a fight Friday afternoon in the parking lot of Lakewood Baptist Church, Gainesville police said.

Authorities responded to the call about 2:41 p.m. in the rear lot of the church off Thompson Bridge Road.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with [the church],” Gainesville Police Sgt. Joe Britte said.

Two men, Britte said, met at the parking lot and fought.

The names of the men have not been released, though they are not members of the church, Britte said.

One man has been taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries and the second man was arrestd.

Britte said police didn’t know of any injuries for the man in custody.

Members of the church said no children were in the building at the time of the shooting.
