SOUTH FORSYTH — A recent burglary in Forsyth County may be the handiwork of a crew that has struck numerous similar businesses across the metro Atlanta area.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, the owner of Blue Havana II Cigar and Gifts on Atlanta Hwy., found the front window of the business smashed Aug. 25. There was a large rock on the floor.

The only thing missing, according to the sheriff’s report, was the cash register drawer containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said officials have heard of related “smash-and-grab” operations at smoke shops throughout the area. As a result, the agency ramped up security around local stores.

“We ... put out an extra patrol to all the cigar shops we have in Forsyth County, just to be on the lookout,” Rainwater said.

He added that Blue Havana was the lone cigar shop robbed within the county’s jurisdiction.

Cumming police couldn't confirm that any such businesses had been robbed within the city limits and declined further comment.
