A Forsyth County man has been charged with stabbing a 40-year-old woman in the chest over the holiday weekend.

The incident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Sunday at a house on Long Street Church Road in western Forsyth, said Sheriff’s Capt. Frank Huggins.
Joseph Christopher Long, 32, was arrested Sunday by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and charged with aggravated assault.

Long remains at the Forsyth County Jail on $11,110 bond, a jail spokeswoman said.

Huggins said the woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment after Long reportedly stabbed her with a knife.

Her condition at the Atlanta hospital could not be determined.

A man was found lying in the driveway when authorities responded to a 911 call at the house.

Huggins said the man, later identified as Long, told authorities someone knocked him out after he hurt the woman.

“Apparently, she went to a nearby relative’s residence and a family member retaliated,” said Huggins, adding that charges have not been filed against the family member.

Huggins said Long was arrested after he was treated at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

He declined to comment on a possible motive, noting that the investigation is continuing.
