EAST FORSYTH — A Texas man who reportedly robbed an east Forsyth bank from the drive-through window in April has been indicted on a variety of charges.

Stephen “Chris” Plunkett, 39, will face trial on two counts of aggravated assault and one each of armed robbery and “hoax devices.”

Plunkett also was indicted by a Forsyth County Grand Jury on one count each of forgery in the second degree and theft by receiving.

Plunkett was arrested April 15, about a week after he allegedly passed a note to a bank teller in the drive-through window of Chase Bank at Buford Highway and Trammel Road.

The note demanded money, and attached to it was what appeared to be some type of bomb, according to authorities.

Though the device was later determined not to be an explosive, it was realistic enough that the teller sent an undisclosed amount of money back to Plunkett, who then drove away.

A bomb squad unit from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation disposed of the device later that day.

Plunkett was apprehended by Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies who found him stranded along the side of Ga. 400 near McFarland Parkway in south Forsyth.

According to Sheriff’s Department reports, the brand-new black Chevrolet Silverado truck that Plunkett was driving had run out of gas for a second time on the highway as he traveled north to the home he was renting with his girlfriend off Lanier Beach South Road near Lake Lanier in east Forsyth.

Sheriff’s deputies had arrived at the home earlier that evening to find only his girlfriend, whose name was never released as it was not believed she was involved in the April 9 robbery, or any other crimes, committed by Plunkett.

Plunkett called her while detectives were there to tell her he was on his way home, but had run out of gas again. Deputies then went out and picked him up.

Greg Allen, Forsyth County’s clerk of court, said Plunkett’s case will head to trial, although it’s too early in the process to know when it will be scheduled.
