NORTH FORSYTH — A man who was shot after reportedly pointing a rifle at a Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputy last week remains hospitalized.

Robin Regan, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, said 46-year-old Jeffery Todd Nielson of Cumming has been transferred to a second medical facility, whose name he didn’t have.

Nielson had previously been treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was taken after the shooting. He is expected to recover, according to authorities.

As of Wednesday, no charges had been filed in connection with the incident.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, encountered Nielson about 4 p.m. June 26 while on patrol in an undeveloped subdivision near Hopewell and Hubbard Town roads in north Forsyth.

Nielson, who was previously described as emotionally distraught, got out of a suspicious black pickup truck with a “lever-action” rifle.

He was shot several times after he reportedly pumped the weapon and pointed it at the approaching deputy.

The deputy, who was not hurt, has been put on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the shooting probe.
